About this event

Dr. Stansbury will be offering a succinct physiological primer on the internal and external influences of anxiety and depression, and botanicals that can reliably play an important role in supporting individuals who experience such afflictions. The course series will also include guidance on how to formulate with Western herbs and nutraceuticals for panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, PTSD, ADHD, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and substance use disorders. The third class in the series will focus on Materia medicafor mental health concerns.

These classes are well suited for Licensed Acupuncturists seeking to better understand the role of herbs in therapy in that it offers experience and evidence based guidance.

  • Participants will expand their toolkit to include Western herbs, formulations, and nutraceuticals
  • Participants will better understand physiology and presentation of common mental health concerns and thus be increasingly prepared to communicate with allied health professionals.
  • Participants will be better equipped to provide therapeutic treatment plans for individuals with mental health concerns.
  • Participants will have increased understanding of herbs and nutraceuticals that their patients may be taking.

Teacher Bio

Jillian Stansbury, ND is a licensed naturopathic physician and an accomplished writer/author, speaker, and teacher. With more than 20 years of experience, she is a primary care physician in private practice at Battle Ground Healing Arts in southwestern Washington State. Dr. Stansbury is the author of several books including "Herbs for Health and Healing" and "The Complete Guide to Natural Medicine", and is a regular contributor to numerous magazines and professional journals, including Naturopathic Doctor News and Review, The Review of Natural Products, and Unified Energetics. She has served as a consultant and science editor for Rodale Press, Vegetarian Times, and Let’s Live and has conducted numerous radio shows and television health shows. speaking at five or more medical conferences each year, Dr. Stansbury has authored and presented more than 100 scientific papers.

A well-respected teacher, she has chaired the Botanical Medicine Department at the National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon, since 1989, educating the next generation of naturopathic physicians in the chemistry, research, and clinical usage of herbal medicines. Dr. Stansbury recently won a grant to help fund her ethnobotanical studies in the Peruvian Amazon and is working with the Queros tribe outside of Pilcopata on cultural sustainability projects.
